The latest trend of Amazon Europe: salary increase and enrollment expansion in Britain, and compulsory fees in France.

In order to cope with the shopping peak before Christmas, Amazon plans to increase the salary of the responsible employees and add 15,000 new employees before the holiday. The salary increase covers part-time, temporary and seasonal positions and full-time positions, and will take effect on October 15.

Amazon said on Monday that it would raise the basic salary of front-line operators responsible for selecting, packaging, storing and transporting goods in warehouses to 11.80 pounds ($14.39) to 12.50 pounds per hour, for which they invested 170 million pounds in the payment field. However, in response to this move, GMB said that this development will not bring “a little comfort” to Amazon employees facing low wages, unsafe working conditions and workplace monitoring.

On the other hand, in France, according to the news of Effie on October 7, from now on, France will charge a minimum of three euros for books purchased remotely. This measure aims to protect bookstores from competition from other online platforms such as Amazon to some extent, and encourage readers to go to bookstores to buy more. The French Bookstore Union estimates that considering the average cost of a transport is 7.5 euros, the new freight rate is not high enough. For Amazon, this law will lead to an increase in prices, thus reducing the sales of books.
